The April study group will focus on Chapter 9: Underlying Competencies from the BABOK® Guide, exploring the skills that support effective business analysis. The discussion will cover analytical thinking, problem-solving, communication, interaction skills, business knowledge, behavioral characteristics, and the use of tools and technology. Understanding these competencies can help business analysts adapt, collaborate, and deliver value more effectively. This session is a great opportunity to strengthen your foundation and connect with others preparing for certification.

Purpose of the Study Group

The purpose of monthly study group sessions is to provide an opportunity for business analysts considering or preparing to write the ECBA™, CCBA®, or CBAP® exam to talk with other like-minded individuals to review and discuss content in the BABOK®. Each month we focus on a single chapter (or two) of the BABOK®, sharing perspectives on the content and answering questions amongst the group. Time is dedicated to reviewing materials you will need to know for the exam. A quiz is offered at the end of the session to reinforce and assess the material covered. The session is facilitated by a CBAP-certified business analyst.

Overview of the Session

Being a business analyst can sure be tough sometimes. One day you may be preparing a business case to expose the merits of a new business transformation initiative to upper management ... and the next day day you may find yourself facilitating a brainstorming session to elicit elusive requirements from a group of disgruntled stakeholders. To be effective in your role, you require a wide spectrum of fundamental skills and knowledge.

In the April 2025 session, we will focus on business analyst Underlying Competencies, the ninth chapter of the BABOK®. The Underlying Competencies chapter provides a description of the behaviours, characteristics, knowledge and personal qualities that support the practice of business analysis.
