BA Trailblazer | BA Beginnings

The BA Beginnings Trailblazer is an opportunity for new business analysts to connect and to discuss tools, techniques, and topics that will help guide their new careers in business analysis.

The ultimate objective of this BA Trailblazer series is to create a comfortable space in which new business analysts can help each other as they explore this new career path, all the while building professional relationships and BA skills. There will be an interactive and collective approach to the sessions where feedback and ideas will be used to determine the direction of the Trailblazer’s discussions as the series progresses.

The series will begin by having participants use business analysis techniques to review and create a resume or CV geared towards the business analysis job market.

Learning Objective

Building a BA resume by leveraging your existing experience.

Agenda

5:30 to 5:45 pm - Check-in and introductions
5:45 to 6:45 pm - Facilitated discussion on resume building
6:45 to 7:00 pm - Wrap up and next steps

About the Hosts

Matt Landry is a young professional trying to gain experience as a Business Analyst. He acquired his Entry Certificate of Business Analysis (ECBA) through the IIBA by studying independently and completing the exam online. He currently works for Apple as a Technical Expert where he is responsible for facilitating troubleshooting sessions, uncovering customer needs, and providing tailored solutions.

J-P Thompson is entering business analysis as a second career, and completed a certification in business analysis from Algonquin College Corporate Training in 2017. He currently works for Shipley Canada doing business process analysis and proposal development. His role lets him put into practice what he has learned in the classroom, and combine it with his previous experience in project management, coordination, advocacy, research, and administration.

About the Trailblazer Initiatives

The IIBA Ottawa-Outaouais Chapter runs a number of trailblazer initiatives on a variety of topics. The objective is to bring people together to discuss specific topics of interest and learn from each other in a casual format. The participants are asked to research specific topics and share what they've learned with the group during a meetup.
