ECBA | CCBA | CBAP Study Group: Elicitation & Collaboration

Purpose of the Study Group

The purpose of monthly study group sessions is to provide an opportunity for business analysts considering or preparing to write the ECBA™, CCBA^® or CBAP^® exam to talk with other like-minded individuals to review and discuss content in the BABOK^®. Each month we focus on a chapter (or two) of the BABOK^® sharing perspectives on the content and answering questions amongst the group. Quiz questions offered throughout the session reinforce and assess the material covered. The session is facilitated by a CBAP-certified business analyst.

Overview of the Session

Strolling through a field, picking strawberries on a sunny day—is this what requirements gathering is like? Business analysts collect information through analysis of documents, facilitating workshops and holding conversations with stakeholders. But what if the BA doesn’t ask the questions needed to clarify the true problem to be solved? Or conduct sufficient analysis to identify conflicting requirements? Or cross-check and evaluate requirements to identify gaps?

In the November 2020 session, we will focus on the Elicitation and Collaboration knowledge area, the fourth chapter of the BABOK®.

The Elicitation and Collaboration knowledge area consists of tasks performed to communicate expectations of stakeholders, conduct elicitation activities, confirm the outcomes of elicitation activities, understand stakeholder needs, provide stakeholders with key information and engage stakeholders throughout the business analysis process.
