Skills Workshop | Methods, models and concepts for the Business Analyst on Business Intelligence Projects

OVERVIEW & PURPOSE

Business intelligence (BI) provides management teams with data that allows them to take specific business actions, make better decisions and assess operational aspects of their business with finer detail. Business analysis plays a key role in the assessment and review of the strategic, process, data modelling, and transition requirements for any BI initiative. The purpose of this course is to introduce key terms, methods, concepts, tools and techniques a business analyst can leverage while working on a BI project.

GOALS

1. Understand how strategic analysis contributes to driving BI needs for the organization

2. Learn how business process assessments can yield new data insights

3. Develop a lexicon about business intelligence cubes, facts and dimensions

4. Model logical data requirements using a multidimensional approach that feeds the physical BI development

5. Develop key transition requirements using organizational readiness assessments

Who: Business Analysts at the novice to intermediate level
Cost: $83 for IIBA members | $110 for non-members
PDs and CDUs: 7 CDUs -The event is recognized for Professional Development hours (PD Hours) for the certification application, and Continuing Development Units (CDU) for recertification
- Breakfast, lunch, coffee and tea will be provided.
- Registration is capped at 30 participants to ensure optimal learning conditions

About the Instructor:
Sean Christopher has been working in the field of information technology for 18 years, 12 as a Business Analyst. As IT Business Analyst for the Standards Council of Canada, a crown Corporation, he has played a lead role in a number of IT projects and is currently leading modernization efforts for two of SCCs core applications and systems. Sean is a certified specialist in SQL Server Business Intelligence and past Vice-President for Professional Development with the Ottawa-Outaouais chapter of the IIBA. As founder of the Smoothcube Business Analytics Corporation, Sean develops software applications and consults on business analysis. While not delving into the depths of technical requirements during the daytime, Sean explores the lakes and rivers of the Ottawa valley and beyond in a kayak, he gardens and follows hockey and football. He lives in Ottawa with his wife and three children.
