The IIBA Ottawa-Outaouais Chapter is pleased to present our Mentoring Program. The goal of the Mentoring Program is to help IIBA Ottawa-Outaouais chapter members achieve their professional development goals through the mentor-mentee relationship.

Benefits of Mentoring

What Our Mentoring Program...

IS

IS NOT

  • an enabling process for skill development
  • a confidence-building exercise through experience sharing
  • a focus on career goal discussions
  • a focus on direction setting
  • an open, trusted learning environment
  • job training or job shadowing
  • therapy; it should not be devoted to solving personal problems
  • an endless time-consuming activity; it should have a limited purpose
  • a job guarantee
  • a job placement service
  • a forum to vent out emotions against an employer
  • a shortcut to certification

How the Mentoring Program Works

In order to ensure maximum access to the program, mentor/mentee pairing is in effect for three months at a time.  At the end of the 3-month period, those wishing to remain in the program must indicate their interest and will be placed back on the waiting list for a future pairing.

  1. Apply.  Prospective mentors and mentees must submit their application form that sets out their needs and interests.
  2. Be Matched. Upon receipt of your application form the Mentoring team will review your application form and will attempt to match mentors and mentees based on needs and availability of each.
    1. If you are matched, you will receive the program documentation including a mentor/mentee contract to sign.
    2. If a match cannot be found, your name will be placed on our waiting list for the next round of mentor/mentee pairing.
  3. Sign the Contract.  Participants are asked to sign up for an initial three-month commitment. At the end of this period, each participant will decide if they wish to continue in the Mentoring Program.
  4. Establish Expected Outcomes. Mentors and mentees are encouraged to meet initially to clarify the baseline expectations of the mentorship.
  5. Meet Regularly. Mentors and mentees should plan to meet with each other on a regular basis and agree on action items to be reviewed at the subsequent meeting.
  6. Report Progress. Monthly, mentors and mentees will each report their progress to the Mentoring team.
