Discover practical techniques to handle scope creep effectively in IT projects. Led by Sergey Shimansky, this session dives into strategies like establishing scope baselines, assessing impacts, and navigating change negotiations. Join us at our February chapter meeting to enhance your skills in managing change requests with confidence.

Event Description

We’ve all been there—change requests, scope creep, last-minute additions, shifting priorities, and more—finding ourselves trying to squeeze more “stuff” into an already full backlog.

But hear me out: change is normal. Asking for a change is normal too. Moreover, the paying client is entitled to ask for more.

The real problem with change requests arises from an inability to properly recognize, analyze, assess impact, negotiate, and address the CR in a clear and structured way. Yet, it doesn’t have to be a problem or an escalation. When handled properly, CRs can become a source of product evolution and valuable user feedback.

And that's exactly what we're going to explore in this session.

Learning Objectives

In this session we’ll explore methods and strategies for effectively addressing change requests in IT projects, such as:
  • Establishing the scope baseline for Pilot, MVP, Post-MVP
  • Assessing impact and determining the material effect
  • Negotiations and tradeoffs
  • Tracking the execution
  • Knowing when and how to escalate
  • Estimating time for handling CRs
  • Processing CRs from internal teams
  • Navigating objections and emotions
