February Meeting | Retrospective from (IT) Business Analyst: Journey to Incremental Agility

The presentation will focus on lessons learned from a successful, real life implementation of an IT solution (GCCampus) in the federal government to meet the Government of Canada (GoC), Destination 2020 goal of modernizing learning delivery to promote informal learning. The IT team was assigned a lofty goal of releasing a beta version integrating multiple COTS and open source applications within 9 months whilst facing resource crunch and leadership issues and as a result erosion in client satisfaction.

In essence, the presentation will focus on the evolution in the IT business analyst role as well as successes and improvements from the business analyst perspective by examining various factors including:

  • The client and senior management support/governance;
  • Project management/SDLC framework
  • Scope management
  • Evolving business analysis tasks to meet clients’ needs.

About the presenter: Kavitha is a Project Lead/Business Analyst at Health Canada, Information Management Services Directorate. Having started as a software engineer 17+ years ago, Kavitha’s specialty is to apply her (IT) technical knowledge and skills in various domains such as defense, insurance, STM publishing, learning management, and currently health in both U.S.A and Canada in both private and public sectors to deliver client-centric IM/IT solutions to ensure a successful adoption rate. Kavitha has a Masters in Software Systems Engineering and Bachelors in Mathematics-Computer Science, Cum Laude. She is PMP and ITIL (Foundation) certified. In the last 8+ years in the GoC, Kavitha also worked on knowledge management, strategic planning, and performance measurement framework. In 2015, she was recognized by the Deputy-Minister of Canada School of Public Service (CSPS) and later nominated for the Public Service Awards along with her project team for delivering the first release of a learning management application that was part of the Government of Canada, Destination 2020 objective.
